Acting Class, Voice and Speech and Pilates

I was off from work today, but I have class on my days off.  My acting class went really well today.  I have a partner for the year and we have to perform exercises in front of the class.  My partner had to work on a task today and I had to react to him.  The catch is that we had to repeat what the other person was saying.  It's a repetition exercise that makes you listen and respond to the other person.

For example:

"You look bored."

"I look bored?"

"You look bored."

Sounds pretty boring, but we're learning a lot and it's advanced pretty far in the past week and a half.  My partner and I got pretty heated and were even yelling at each other during our exercise.  He's really good and he's of course a model that was scouted from a small city and has been here for 3 months.  It was challenging and fun today in class.

After acting, I had Voice and Speech class.  We worked on our breathing and stretching.  It's amazing how much they effect our voice and posture.  I also have a Movement class.  I've been getting really relaxed in Voice and Speech and Movement.  They've been great so far, but I'm not used to these types of classes.  When I leave, I feel refreshed and like I've meditated and even had a small massage.

I decided to go to my first class at my super fancy gym tonight.  I've been working out, but hadn't checked out any classes yet.  It was a Pilate's class and I didn't know what I was doing and it was really hard!  The instructor was nice though and I'm sure I'll be sore tomorrow and back for more in the future.

Rain, Trader Joe's and Ryan Gosling

I've been meaning to post all week.  This will be quick because I have to go to work, but I promise I will post some more info later.  I've had a terrific first week in NYC.  I'm loving everything about it!  It rained heavily yesterday and I need to get some rain boots.  My shoes actually got wet and my socks in my shoes were soaked too.  Worse part was I had Voice and Speech and then Movement class after and we had to be in our socks for the class.  I kept leaving a trail everywhere I went!  I"m enjoying those classes and they're actually relaxing.

I know my Mom doesn't want me to take the subway, but it's really efficient and I have to take it to get around.  I saw a rat run across the stairs one day.  I know that's gross, but I read that the city is working on the infestation because there's like 3 or 4 rats to every subway rider.  They're under the tracks, etc and aren't usually where we wait.  (I hope!)  I also saw Ryan Gosling on the subway one day.  I thought it was cool that he took it and no one bothered him.  I've heard that celebrities aren't bothered in NY like they are in LA and I have proof now.

My first week of work went well and I'm getting more familiar with the store.  My acting class is a lot of fun and challenging.  I'll go into more details later.  NYC is already cold, but I can handle it.  You know how much of a whoos I am with the cold and I'm surprised I'm ok with it.

I bought a bed this week and don't have to sleep on an air mattress anymore.  The air mattress was comfortable, but the bed feels amazing.  Groceries are ridiculously expensive here, but cheaper to by and prepare food than to eat out.  Except for some of the food carts. Jennifer recommended food carts with chicken and rice and I had a delicious lunch for $3 the other day.  I found a Trader Joe's nearby and I'm going to start shopping there because they have the best prices I've found.  Plus, I love Trader Joe's! I miss my family and friends, but I know you'll visit and you'll love it here too.

Have a great day! xoxo

4th Day In The City

This is my 4th day in NYC!  I'm loving it so far.  My flight from Vegas to NYC on the 13th was delayed 2 hours because of the crazy Vegas lightning storm!  Very funny Vegas!  We sat in the airplane for almost 2 hours waiting to take off.  I arrived in Baltimore and was supposed to transfer to NYC.  However, I missed the last connecting flight because of the Vegas delay.  I stayed the night in Baltimore and flew in to NYC the next morning.

I spent Wednesday unpacking and getting settled.  I was scheduled to work Thursday and it was really easy to get there.  Sorry Mom, I had to take the subway.  The subway is very close to my building.  I signed up for a monthly unlimited subway pass, so that will save me money.

I joined Equinox gym and you can see that from my building!  It's the nicest gym I've ever been in!  I'm going to get in better shape and have no excuse not to go because it's so close!  They have over 100 classes per week, a steam room and Kiehl's products in the locker room.  I actually like showering there better than my apartment because of the locker room amenities.  The showers are beautiful and stocked with Kiehl's shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, q-tips, cotton pads, towels, blow dryers, deodorant, hairspray, mouthwash and the list goes on!  It feels like a spa when I go and I'm so happy that I joined!  Vegas has bigger gyms with more equipment, swimming and basketball.  However, Equinox is more luxurious and expensive of course!

I had my first acting class yesterday.  I was nervous, but it went really well.  I had fun and I'm excited for what's to come.  I've been walking a few miles + per day and climbing lots of stairs in the subway and at work.  My work has 8 floors and it's easier to take the stairs sometimes because there's only 2 elevators.

I have to get ready to work.  I'm so happy and thankful to be here and I miss my family and friends.

PS:  I have a doorman in my building and I'm going to do my best not to become a snob.  They're so friendly and help with bags and open doors.  Wow, I'm getting spoiled.

I'll post pictures soon.  I miss all of you.  Have a great day!!

xoxo
